To All Interested Parties:

I am writing to let you know about a community project that may be of interest to you and your organization.

The Mattawa-Bonfield Economic Development Corporation had applied for and was selected to participate in a "Community Energy Shift Project".  This project is being led by the Biomass Innovation Centre (www.biomassinnovation.ca) at Nipissing University and funded through the Community Energy Partnerships Program (CEPP) (www.communityenergyprogram.ca).  It comprises a series of 3 community workshops that are intended to build awareness about renewable energy and explore opportunities for developing community renewable energy projects within the Mattawa Voyageur Country.

An initial community information session/interactive workshop is scheduled for Wednesday March 7, 2012 from 6 pm - 9:30 pm at the Mattawa Community Centre.  The session  is open to all residents and community stakeholder (i.e. local businesses, churches, schools, hospital, etc.) who may be interested in:
"Learning about renewable energy and the opportunities for developing Community Renewable Energy projects?
"Understanding the benefits of locally owned renewable energy projects?
"Seeing what other communities are doing?
"Contributing to the development of a desirable energy vision for Mattawa Voyageur Country?
"Contributing ideas for initiatives that could be taken to begin moving the region towards a desirable energy future?
"Understanding what will happen at the next two community workshops - where participants will identify and explore opportunities for developing locally owned community renewable energy projects?

Locally owned renewable energy projects create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the resilience of communities in an era of rising energy prices and climate change and can include initiatives such as:
"the installation of solar panels on the roof of a local church, school, community centre, etc, or
"the formation of a non-profit or charity that develops renewable energy projects and reinvests any revenues into other renewable energy projects and initiatives, or
"a co-operatively owned windmill on the outskirts of town, or
"a biomass heating system for a group of local businesses, or
"landfill gas project (similar to the Landfill Gas to Energy Project in North Bay) or
"a water power generation facility (like the recently opened facility in the Village of South River)

It would be great if you (or someone from your organization) is able to participate in the first session that is scheduled for Wednesday March 7, 2011 at the Mattawa Community Centre, address from 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm.

Yours truly,

Council, Township of Papineau-Cameron
